Types of Transport In Amsterdam City


Rail

Right underneath the airport, the Dutch Railway operates a railway station that provides rides not only to the center of Amsterdam and back but to other major cities of the Netherlands Utrecht, The Hague, and Rotterdam. Trains run every 10-15 minutes during the day and every 1 hour at night. The working hours are from 06:00 am to 01:00 am during the daytime and from 02:00 am to 05:00 am at night.

The internal direct train connects the AMS with Amsterdam CS, Rotterdam CS, and Breda.

Fees for the ticket vary between 5.30 euros for a one-way 2nd class ticket to 8.20 one-way 1st class ticket. The price for the ‘Railrunner' ticket for the kids from 4 up to 11 years is 2.50 euros. Children below 4 years are traveling free of charge.

The ticket may be purchased at rather the ticket desk on the arrivals hall or at the yellow machines located at the airport.

For those that are planning to use the public transportation more than once, the OV-chip card system would be more appropriate. Those refundable cards may be used when traveling by bus, train or metro.


Bus

That mean of transportation is undeniable the most convenient, comfortable and affordable one. Buses depart every 30 minutes from the airport and a ride to the city center will take around 30 minutes.

Buses are located outside of the Schiphol Plaza and provide rides to different parts of the city. The one-way ticket might cost around 4- 5 euros. OV-chip card might be used as well, the system offers different types of the card: Personal, Anonymous, Single Use and Business.

Amsterdam Airport Express (Bus 397, or Bus 197 previously) will carry the passengers to Museumplein, Rijksmuseum or Leidseplein. Those buses depart from the platform B15-19. The price of the ticket is 6 euros for a single one-way ticket and 10 euros for a round-trip ticket. At night Bus N97 (Niteliner) will carry the passengers to the Amsterdam downtown.

GVB Bus 69 departing from Platform B14 will get the passengers to Sloterdijk Train Station in 41 minutes from where it will be easy to get to Amsterdam Central Station by bus or train. The price of the ticket is 3 euros for a single ticket and 7.50 euros for a day pass.

Among other buses, Bus 300 will get the one to Haarlem, Bus 361 to Lisse, Bus 365 to Leiden - Zoetermeer. The most popular bus line is Line 397 (Amsterdam Express) that provides rides to the city center. 


Schiphol Hotel Shuttles

That mean of transportation may become a good alternative for taxis, as it is comfortable, affordable, and sometimes free of charge. Shuttles depart every 30 minutes from 06:00 am to 09:00 pm, the place of departure locates at bus platform A7 outside of the arrivals hall.

Even though those shuttles provide the door-to-door rides, not all of the hotels offer that service.

The price for an adult one-way trip costs 13.5 euros and 6.25 euros for children.


Taxi

That mean of transportation is at the same time one of the most comfortable and expensive ones. The ride will take around 20-25 minutes to get from an airport to the city downtown and will cost from 45 to 50 euros depending on the destination, traffic, and route. The one may find a taxi outside of the arrivals hall or train station.
